A Prom Divided

Racially segregated proms have been held in Montgomery County — where about two-thirds of the population is white — almost every year since its schools were integrated in 1971. Such proms are, by many accounts, longstanding traditions in towns across the rural South.

This is riduculous!
It's heartwrenching to hear that such extreme segrigation not only exists but is accepted.

Most Northern Virginia schools are diverse enough now that the idea of a segretated prom sounds outragous! Although, we should not forget that it wasn't too long ago since schools were integrated; this is proof that the country still has a long way to go.

I read something like this awhile ago, its absolutely ridiculous. Seriously, it's 2009 and there's segregation? I don't understand how people would allow/accept this act.

This is just so odd! The narrated slide show really expresses the different points of view on this so well.

Why is this still happening? This should have stopped a long time ago. It's a shame that this is a "tradition" and it shouldn't continue.
