Lower Wages...Or Else.
In a startling turnabound from the normal policy in this recession, the state government of New York, under Republican governor David Paterson, has threatened to cut roughly 9000 jobs, unless the worker unions accept lower wages. Rather than raise taxes or decrease the governmental programs, New York will balance their budget through decreasing the wages of governnment workers. Even so, the state expects to lose thousands of jobs because of the worsened economic conditions. The new policy is not to save every job, but to minimize the damage done.
