Comedia Becomes Serious Contender

I find it very interesting when celebrities become seriously involved in politics. (ie Arnold Schwarzenegger) Former Saturday Night Live writer and actor, Al Franken, is a Democratic Candidate for Senate.

I think that's it's good when celebrities become involved in politics, whether endorsing a candidate or simply reminding people to vote (for example, Citizen Change's "Vote or Die").

However, I do not think that celebrities would make good politicians. Just because a celebrity is well liked by the people doesn't mean that he or she can successfully lead the people.

I agree with that last statement, however we can not assume that a celebrity can not lead the people well either. Reagan was an actor after all, and a lot of people would say that he was pretty successful. Someone like Franken probably has a lot of wit and understanding of the people, considering he was a writer for one of the most successful shows. His election would also contribute to the taking over of Democrats in Congress. People are probably more interested in his party affiliation than his previous occupations in a time like this.
