While it is true Sen. McCain has not run the most effective campaign, there are many factors that contribute to his worsening showing in the polls. The "elite" media, which is most widely watched, has had an overwhelmingly negative view of the GOP campaign. If the media were to have given the GOP at least equally positive coverage as it has the Democrat party, would the polls be as they are today?
Studies have shown Obama has received over 60% positive coverage for his campaign while McCain has received close to 30%.
This article explains the many areas of McCain's campaign that have failed to gain him support from his party and from independents.

I guess I can see where they're coming from. the GOP definitely don't have a pretty little light shining on them like the democrats do which is very inconvinent for them but i guess this is just one more obstacle for them to get over.isn't that what they're supposed to do, problem solve and find ways to keep them afloat in society?
Its kinda true that they are treated unfair. Its hard for them to get out to the middle voters if the media is negative. And since Obama has bought alot of airtime that doesnt help also.
I agree that they have been treated unfairly. However, I don't think it'll make that much of a difference if the media actually did have equally positive coverages. I think that the media is a key role in the campaign, but it's not the MOST important. I think other factors also are also important in one's decision for who to vote for in the presidential election. Therefore I don't think the polls would change too much even if McCain did have equally positive coverage from the media as Obama.
I think that this definitely contributed to McCain's decline in support. I had no idea the numbers were this unfair though! I think that the negative attitude towards McCain might be coming Bush's unpopularity (now Bush has a net popularity of -30%).The people are afraid that McCain is going to be more of the same. Also, liberals are generally (not to be stereotypical)more easygoing than conservatives and quicker to make fun of the opposing party.
Looks like McCain is really screwing the Republican Party over. Although I still have to say I'm impressed. His poll numbers are still decent in my opinion (although they're much lower than Obama's, I know- but a lot can change in a week), even though he's only drawing major support now from a relatively small small base. However, unless something big happens soon, McCain is going down the drain- he's halfway there already.
I think the media is being biased and it is acctecting McCain's campaign because you dont see Barak Obama getting attacked or made fun of on SNL. And many young people who get their news from the Daily show are going to vote democratic because they only listen to how its funny and not really what the people are saying.
i blame the media for this. I strongly believe that the media is to blame for the negitivity towards Sarah Palin. I have actually met her and she seems like a very down to earth person which would be refreshing to have in the white house.
The candidates are viewed by people as how the media portrays them. It is somewhat unfair because of all of the airtime that Obama is getting and all of those SNL clips about Palin. Media reaches out to everyone and so the negative coverage about McCain hurts him a lot.
